Can you do GEO yourself? Honestly, some of it.

By Manish, SEO & GEO Lead at DigiVino · Updated June 27, 2026 · 3 min read

Yes, you can do real parts of this yourself — and you should. The question isn't DIY or hire; it's knowing which jobs reward your time and which quietly eat your week.

What you can do yourself this week

Plenty. Run the 10-minute AI audit on the major engines. Pull your hours, prices, and services out of PDFs into plain text. Add real, credentialed author names to your key pages. Keep your Google Business Profile accurate and your reviews flowing. None of that needs an agency — just an afternoon.

Where hiring help pays for itself

The technical and ongoing work: structured-data (schema) across a whole site, restructuring content to be answer-first at scale, a fresh-content cadence you won't keep up alone, and measurement that actually tracks AI mentions. If doing it yourself means it never gets done, that's the most expensive option of all.

A simple way to decide

Do the free, high-leverage basics yourself. Get help where the work is technical, ongoing, or competitive. Not sure which is which for your business? That's exactly what an audit clarifies.
