What is AEO, and how is it different from SEO?

By Manish, SEO & GEO Lead at DigiVino · Updated June 27, 2026 · 3 min read

Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) is structuring your content so it wins the direct answer — the featured snippet, the voice result, the quick reply at the top of the page. It's the bridge between classic SEO and full-blown GEO.

How is AEO different from SEO and GEO?

SEO earns a ranked link. AEO earns the boxed-out direct answer (a snippet or a voice reply). GEO earns a mention inside a generative AI's synthesized response. They're a continuum — clear, well-structured, question-shaped content tends to win all three at once. See the full breakdown in SEO vs AEO vs GEO.

How do you win the answer?

Ask the question in a heading and answer it immediately and plainly in the first sentence or two. Add structure (lists, tables, FAQ schema) so a machine can lift the answer cleanly. Be specific and cite sources. The same habits that make you quotable to AI make you snippet-worthy to search.

Win the answer, not just the link
